Public Trust is the Trustee for the Eileen May Norris Dance Scholarship Trust (The Trust)
Terms and conditions
. The following terms and conditions are applicable to
all applications and may be varied from time to time by Public Trust…
• the scholarship/s shall be known as the Eileen May Norris Dance Scholarships
• the value of each scholarship will be decided by the committee as constituted
• one scholarship of up to $20,000 will be awarded for 2010
• the value may differ from year to year and may also differ between applicants in any one year
• scholarships may also include an appropriate allowance for living and incidental expenses.
Applications close on Tuesday 31 March. The Trustee will endeavour to advise all applicants of the outcome within three months of the closing date.
Criteria
• applicants must be New Zealand born or naturalised citizens and shall be aged from 18 years and under 25 years of age (as at the closing date of applications)
• applications must be from individuals only and the scholarships will only be awarded to a suitable applicant and not necessarily annually
• applicants will need to have demonstrated outstanding dance talent in New Zealand with an appropriate university, polytechnic, dance school or academy or for those currently dancing with a professional body or company
• the year of the applicant’s project should be outlined in the application and the ‘year’ can exceed a calendar year
• those eligible to apply must be demonstrating the actual performance of dance as opposed to choreography and/or the study of dance.
Requirements
• each application must be supported by at least two references, one from the applicant’s dance teacher and another from a person qualified to make a judgement on the applicant’s potential for a career in dance and performance work
• each application must be supported by a covering letter; two curriculum vitaes (CVs) stating qualifications, employment history and any volunteer work); a budget; and a two page project outline. One CV will be dance related and the other will be education based
• each application must be accompanied by two copies of audition tapes or DVDs. The filming of the performance should not be altered or edited by using devices and not be incongruent with what is actually being executed. An eloquence in their particular area of dance study is required that is recognised nationally and internationally to be sufficient to equate with the standards of the chosen institution. Tapes or DVDs
must be auditioned by an appropriate judicator organisation not connected to the applicant. The tapes or DVDs become the property of the Trust and will not be returned to the applicant
• the project to be undertaken must relate to the applicant’s background and/or career plan.
Notes
• decisions made by Public Trust in relation to any scholarship matter will be final and the Trustee reserves the right to seek such information regarding the applicant from the institution(s) attended as they deem necessary in order to decide a scholarship
• the scholarship will be a one-off award to that successful recipient
• the Advisory Committee reserves the right to withhold the payment of any amounts due under the Scholarship in the event of the misconduct of any person holding the Scholarship.
Process
• payment will be made direct to the institution in most instances
• payment frequency whether as a lump sum, instalments or semester based will be decided by the Advisory Committee in consultation with the Scholarship winner.
