Christchurch Residency for New York Dance Artists

New York dance/movement artists Robbinschilds are coming to Christchurch to present their video work as well as several site-reactive live events and to begin to research a new project.
Founded in 2003 on choreographers Sonya Robbins and Layla Childs' shared interest in performance and installation, Robbinschilds is focused on presenting highly visual dance works which explore the intersection between architecture and human movement.
Robbinschilds will be in Christchurch from 25 November - 20 December 2009 as The Physics Room / Arts Centre International Artists in Residence with support from The Canterbury Community Trust.
While in Christchurch they will perform collaborative video and performance work C.L.U.E. Permanently in progress, C.L.U.E. adapts to the space it temporarily occupies. In the work Robbinschilds use a choreographed language of bodily movements as a vehicle to explore natural and humanmade landscape.
The video work edited by robbinschilds and A.L. Steiner, with music by Seattle-based band Kinski, has screened in numerous galleries and venues in the US, Europe and China. In its live incarnation, most recently exhibited at the New Museum in New York City, the project took the form of site-specific performance, multi-channel video installation, and video projection. C.L.U.E.'s facilitation in Christchurch will also see the project morph to make the most of the opportunities and locations on offer there.
